Members of the medical and pharmaceutical communities in Kerry have condemned claims by the US president linking paracetamol to autism.
President Donald Trump has announced doctors there will be notified that taking Tylenol, a US brand name for paracetamol, during pregnancy increases the chance of a child being on the autistic spectrum.
Farranfore GP, Dr Eamonn Shananhan warns that although women should be careful taking medication during pregnancy, decades of research have failed to show a connection between paracetamol during pregnancy and autism.
He says there are complex reasons for an increase in autism rates worldwide, but that linking it to paracetamol is an oversimplification.
