Works required to fix issues at a North Kerry bridge exceeded the threshold for the bridge rehabilitation programme.
That’s according to information provided at the recent Listowel MD meeting in response to a motion from Fine Gael councillor Michael Foley.
The local authority applied for funding to solve erosion at Foildarrig Bridge in 2024 but was unsuccessful; while remedial works were carried out at the site last spring.
Kerry County Council says it has submitted a funding request under the climate change adaptation and resilience (CCAR) grant.
The council added, it’s also tendering for a consultant to help expedite the programme timeline.
Cllr Foley responded it’s important that funding is sourced to resolve the issues, adding it's a serious concern for locals.
The motion was seconded by Cllr Aoife Kennelly, who asked the council to provide an update on when works will commence at Foildarrig Bridge.
