A man has appeared before the court charged in connection with the burglary of a hostel in North Kerry.
36-year-old Gavin Keane of Greenville, Listowel appeared before Judge David Waters at Killarney District Court.
It’s alleged that shortly before 5.30PM on May 4th, Gavin Keane burgled Lumberjacks Hostel on Church Street Listowel.
At Killarney District Court, Garda Michael Dowling gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.
The 36-year-old is accused of entering Lumberjacks Hostel with his face covered, before opening a back door of the premises and letting two other masked males enter.
It’s alleged that Mr Keane and the two men tried to gain access to another room in the hostel, before subsequently running from the premises.
Gavin Keane faces one charge of burglary at Lumberjacks Hostel, and the possession of a weapon, namely a hammer.
Solicitor for the accused Pat Mann argued the wording of the charge, stating his client did not have a hammer.
Garda Dowling agreed that the accused was not in possession of a hammer, however, one of the other males was.
Mr Mann applied for bail for his client, however, Judge David Waters refused the application on common design.
Mr Mann said the matter will ultimately be contested and stated that there will a bail application made for his client to the High Court.
Judge Waters remanded Mr Keane in custody, to appear before Tralee District Court on May 13th for DPP directions.
