A man has been remanded in custody accused of smashing car windows with an iron bar and unlawfully taking a car in Tralee.
32-year-old Volodomyr Vorobiov, of 10 Ocean View, Portmagee, appeared in Tralee District Court recently via video link from Cork Prison.
He faces a total of 12 charges.
Ten of his charges relate to one day of alleged offending on 8th October.
On this day, he’s alleged to have damaged the windows of two cars on Upper Rock Street, and the front passenger window of one car on Brewery Road.
He faces two counts of possession of an item to damage property at St Brendan’s Park on that date; that being an iron bar and scissors.
He’s further charged with the unlawful seizure of a vehicle on 8th October, namely a white Audi A3 at St Brendan’s Park, Tralee; this charge alleges that the vehicle was taken by force, threat, or intimidation.
Mr Vorobiov is also charged with the robbery of a set of car keys from a woman in St Brendan’s Park on that date, then taking her vehicle without consent, and then driving that car dangerously at Dromtacker, Tralee.
He faces one count of possession of an offensive weapon, namely a steel bar, which was made or adapted to cause injury or incapacitate a person, at St Brendan’s Park on that date.
The final two charges against Mr Vorobiov are from 24th April this year; they are two counts of dangerous driving.
At Tralee District Court, Mr Vorobiov communicated with the court via a Ukrainian interpreter, and asked for a mental health assessment.
Judge David Waters noted he had refused jurisdiction, meaning Mr Vorobiov will face the charges against him in a higher court.
Sergeant Chris Manton said DPP directions are not yet available.
Judge Waters remanded Mr Vorobiov in continuing custody to 30th October.
