A man has been jailed for six months in relation to criminal damage incidents in Tralee.
31-year-old Mateusz Maciaj of 58 Moyderwell, Boherbee Tralee, appeared before Judge David Waters at Tralee District Court.
He was facing two charges in relation to two separate incidents, and had previously pleaded guilty to the these.
The court heard that at around 3pm on January 13th 2024 Mateusz Maciaj and his girlfriend had an argument on Pembroke Street in Tralee.
They had been drinking in a premises and the judge heard both were heavily intoxicated.
Mr Maciaj subsequently headbutted the rear window of a parked car, breaking the window, which had to be replaced.
His solicitor Pat Mann told Judge David Waters that a close fried of his client had died and he was drinking after receiving this news.
In a separate incident, in the early hours of January the 5th 2025, the court heard that Mr Maciaj was intoxicated in a take away on Upper Castle Street and was removed from the premises by staff.
He claimed the staff had broken his leg during the exchange, and subsequently headbutted and broke the front window of the restaurant; which the court heard caused €350 in damage.
Mr Mann told the Judge that his client has a serious issue with narcotics, and both incidents occurred in January, around the passing and anniversary of his friend.
The Judge heard Mr Maciaj has 40 previous convictions, including four suspended sentences.
In his ruling Judge Waters said he had to take the previous suspended sentences into account, and that no attempt had been made by the accused to make a contribution towards the damage.
He convicted Mr Maciaj to five months in prison on the first charge, and six months in prison for the second.
Judge Waters said given the plea of guilty that the sentences are to run concurrently.
