Man found guilty  at Kerry court of three counts of sexually assaulting child

A man has been found guilty of three counts of sexually assaulting a child.

The man, who is in his 50s, cannot be named by order of the court, stood trial on five counts at a Kerry court.

The complainant was between eight and eleven years of age at the time of the alleged offences.

By an 11:1 majority verdict, the jury of six men and six women found the man guilty of three counts of sexual assault contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act 1990 and Section 37 of the Sex Offenders Act 2001, between 1st January 2017 and 31st December 2019.

He was unanimously found not-guilty of two charges under the same statutes.

Judge Ronan Munro thanked the jury for their service and exempted them from jury duty for ten years.

The man was remanded in custody pending sentencing on 28 November.

The complainant will be facilitated to provide a victim impact statement at this time.
