A man has been arrested in Tralee this morning in relation to the investigation into the murder of Michael Gaine.
Radio Kerry News understands that the man is American Michael Kelley who was arrested in April last year in relation to the Kenmare farmer’s death.
At that time, Mr Kelley, who’s in his fifties, was released without charge.
He is currently detained for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
This law gives An Garda Síochána powers to detain and question someone for up to six hours.
A senior officer can extend this for another six hours if needed, for a total of twelve hours.
Radio Kerry understands that Michael Kelley was arrested in Tralee at 7.30am.
We also understand he's currently in Castleisland Garda Station.
Michael Gaine went missing from his home in Carrig East near Kenmare on March 20th last year and his case was upgraded to a homicide investigation the following month.
In May human remains which were found on his farm, were identified as those of Mr Gaine.
The Garda Press Office says a man (aged in his 50s) has been arrested in connection with the investigation this morning.
The press office says he is currently detained at a Garda Station in Kerry Garda Division.
Garda Press Office says the investigation led by Serious Crime Unit Kerry Division has been and continues to be supported by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI).
An Garda Síochána through family liaison officers continue to liaise with and support the family of Micheal Gaine.
They say investigations are ongoing.
