A man has appeared in court in relation to an incident where a JCB-type vehicle was driven at a house in North Kerry.
33-year-old Stephen McAuliffe of Rooska, Carrigkerry, Athea, Co Limerick, appeared before Tralee District Court today facing two charges.
Gardaí attended the scene of alleged criminal damage at Cluainín, Listowel on Monday night.
Earlier this week, videos and images circulated online, appeared to show a yellow loader-shovel vehicle being driven around the green area of a Listowel housing estate, and approaching a house.
Stephen McAullife appeared in person before Judge David Waters this morning charged with two counts in relation to the incident.
It’s alleged that on Monday (June 16th) Mr McAuliffe damaged the pier-wall and front gate of a property at Cluainín, Listowel.
The 33-year-old is also charged with dangerous driving at the same address and on the same date.
At Tralee District Court, Sergeant Aidan Carey of Listowel Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.
Sgt Stephen O’Brien told the court that formal directions from the DPP are not yet available.
Solicitor for the accused, Pat Mann, applied for bail, which was granted, subject to conditions.
These include that Mr McAuliffe resides at his address in Rooska, Carrigkerry, Athea; that he sign on at Newcastle West Garda Station three times a week; that he attends a farm in Upper Athea for work purposes only and that he stay out of Listowel town.
Judge Waters remanded him on bail to Listowel District Court on July 3rd for DPP directions.
