The American man accused of murdering Kenmare farmer Mike Gaine has been remanded in custody for another two weeks.
54-year-old Michael Kelley, who had been residing in Tralee, appeared in Tralee District Court this morning.
He’s accused of murdering Mike Gaine last March.
Michael Kelley faces one charge; that between the 20th and 21st March 2025, he murdered Mike Gaine at Carrig, Kenmare, contrary to common law.
He appeared on video link from Cork Prison at a sitting of Tralee District Court this morning.
Mr Kelley spoke to confirm his name, and that he could see and hear the court.
The court heard the book of evidence is not yet available, and Sergeant Chris Manton applied to have him remanded in custody for a further two weeks.
Mr Kelley’s solicitor Pat Mann said there will be a bail application in the High Court.
Judge David Waters remanded him in custody to 18th March, when he will next appear to face the charge against him.
That date will mark almost a year exactly since Mike Gaine was first reported missing from his home in Kenmare.
It was two months later that body tissue spread in slurry over Mr Gaine’s land, was confirmed to be his.
