Man accused of Michael Gaine murder appears before Tralee court with two black eyes

The man accused of murdering Kenmare man Mike Gaine appeared via video link in court with two black eyes today.

54-year-old American man Michael Kelley appeared in Tralee District Court via video link from Cork Prison this morning.

He's accused of the murder of Kenmare man Mike Gaine in March 2025.

Mr Kelley faces one charge; that he murdered Michael Gaine on a date between 20-21st March 2025, at Carrig, Kenmare.

He appeared in Tralee District Court this morning via video link, for the state to give an update on his case.

Mr Kelley had two black eyes when he sat in front of the camera from prison.

Sergeant Chris Manton said the book of evidence in the case is not yet available.

Mr Kelley was remanded in continuing custody to 6th May.

Mr Kelley's solicitor Pat Mann said his bail application is progressing through the High Court but it's taking longer than usual as it's not a straightforward application.
