Man accused of importing drugs to Tralee post office sent forward for trial

A man accused of trying to import over €18,000 worth of drugs to a post office in Tralee, has been sent forward for trial.

23-year-old Haroon Ibrahim, with an address in Manor Park, Tralee, was served with the book of evidence at Tralee District Court.

Mr Ibrahim faces one charge in the book of evidence; that he imported €18,240 worth of cannabis to the Edward Street post office in Tralee on 24th July 2023.

The court previously heard that Mr Ibrahim was first arrested after a sting operation by gardaí at the Edward Street post office in 2023.

He appeared at a recent sitting of Tralee District Court, where his solicitor Pat Mann confirmed he had been served with the book of evidence.

Sergeant Chris Manton said the Director of Public Prosecutions had consented to Mr Ibrahim being sent forward for trial, or on a signed guilty plea.

Judge David Waters sent him forward for trial or on a signed plea, to the next sitting of Tralee Circuit Court.

Except for exceptional circumstances, the charge of importing drugs worth over €13,000 carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison on conviction, and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
