A man accused of the false imprisonment of a woman in Listowel is to apply for bail in the High Court.
22-year-old Muhammad Ahsan, who was before Tralee District Court via video link from prison, appeared to have suffered a black eye since his last court appearance.
He faces four charges arising from one incident in Listowel on Sunday September 28th.
It’s alleged that Mr Ahsan dragged a 20-year-old woman in through the passenger door of his car after 3am on September 28th.
He is then alleged to have dragged her into the car from behind as she initially broke loose.
It’s alleged that Mr Ahsan opened the front passenger door of the car as the vehicle merged on to the main road, in the knowledge that the passenger was hanging from the car.
He is also accused of stealing the woman’s phone.
He faces four charges arising from this one incident; false imprisonment and endangerment of the woman, theft of a mobile phone, and dangerous driving.
Mr Ahsan, who arrived in Ireland as an asylum seeker from Pakistan in 2023, appeared in Tralee District Court this week via video link from Cork Prison.
When he came on the video link, he appeared to have a black eye which was badly bruised.
It’s understood Mr Ahsan was allegedly struck by another prisoner recently in Cork Prison, where he is on remand.
In Tralee District Court this week, Sergeant Chris Manton said formal directions from the DPP are not available yet.
Mr Ahsan was refused bail in the District Court, but his solicitor Brendan Ahern said there is an application for bail in the High Court.
Mr Ahsan was remanded in continuing custody to 5th November, when he will again appear in court.
