Jessie Buckley has won the Leading Actress award at the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards in London for her performance in Hamnet.
The Killarney star becomes the first Irish actress to take the top honour in the category at the main BAFTA Film Awards.
She was presented with the award by previous BAFTA winner Cillian Murphy, who is part of an ambitious project to reinvigorate the Phoenix Cinema in Dingle..
Jessie has been nominated for BAFTAs on three previous occasions: for the Rising Star Award in 2019, for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Wild Rose in 2020, and for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for The Lost Daughter in 2022.
Her latest win crowns what has already been a remarkable awards season.
In January, she took home Best Actress honours for Hamnet at the Critics’ Choice Awards, and the Golden Globe Awards.
Just last night, she was also named Best Lead Actress in a film at the IFTAs.
She is also in contention for an Oscar, having been nominated for Best Actress for her leading role in Hamnet.
