The N71 Killarney to Kenmare road is closing again from 4pm today due to further flare ups of fire.

A wildfire initially started in the Five Mile Bridge area of Killarney National Park on Tuesday evening, but it was brought under control after several hours.

However, further flare ups have followed yesterday and today, with evidence of fires in remote areas and underground fires.

Kerry County Council has now closed the road again from 4pm for operational reasons, and members of the public are asked to avoid the area.

The council says air support is being deployed, and the situation at the fire location at Five Mile Bridge is being monitored closely by the fire services and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
