Eyewitness describes how Killarney fire threatened homes

A fire in Killarney National Park, which threatened homes, buildings and animals, has been described as frightening.

Gene Tangney lives in the Black Valley and keeps his sheep on land near the Upper Lake at the top of the Purple Mountain.

He spent the weekend trying to save his sheep from being engulfed by the fire; Mr Tangney says many of his sheep were scorched and some are feared dead as they are still missing.

The extent of the damage means he will now have to feed his animals indoors.

Gene Tangney says people put their lives at risk to help him save his animals, as the wind was changing direction and intensifying the flames.
