Speaking at the meeting Killarney Municipal District manager, Angela McAllen read from what she described as the "Áras Phádraig fact sheet".

Details included that the value of the capital investment was worth €47 million, with a total benefit to Killarney of over €133 million after 30 years.

She also outlined that Kerry County Council purchased the site from the Franciscan Friars for €225,000 on December 23rd 2019, and there is no government funding for the construction of new theatres.

Prior to the Chief executives report going to vote, Cathaoirleach Martin Grady told council management he was tabling a joint proposal from all seven elected members.

This proposal was to develop a new plan for the site, to include a new theatre, with new library and civic facilities to allow the redevelopment of the site in line with the public spending code maintaining all existing parking in the Lewis Road car park.

Cllr Grady outlined that the HSE have informed councillors that it has substantial ground at the St Finians’ site and all members are in support of the primary care centre being built on that site.

The meeting heard that 162 submissions were made during the public consultation, of which 153 were against the proposed redevelopment of the Áras Phádraig.

Each elected member outlined that they are aware that there is a risk in their joint proposal in terms of funding and development, however they believe the CEO’s report was not the right thing for the town.

Ms McAllen responded advising the council will do its utmost to retain and keep the funding and are committed to the development of the Áras Phádraig.
