A Killarney councillor believes some additional revenue generated by higher rates of Local Property Tax (LPT) should be spent on local community groups.
Yesterday’s Killarney Municipal District Budget meeting heard that due to the re-valuation of homes, it’s currently expected that there will be an additional €900,000 allocated to the council from Local Property Tax.
Fianna Fáil councillor Niall Kelleher says he believes that figure is conservative and more people will move bands, partly from his work as a postmaster helping people with LPT forms.
He also says the price of homes currently available, particularly in Killarney, will be reflected in the re-valuation of properties.
Cllr Kelleher says putting some of the additional revenue into the Community Support Fund, which funds projects by local community groups, would help people see the direct impact of their Local Property Tax.
