Kerry County Council has recorded the highest number of activations nationally of severe weather emergency response plans.
That’s according to the Local Government Climate Action Key Performance Indicators Report 2024.
It shows for the third year in succession the local authority activated emergency response plans to weather events on the most occasions.
Last year, Kerry County Council’s severe weather emergency response team met on 43 occasions.
The report shows, the local authority’s emergency response plans were activated 33 times, the highest nationally.
According to the data wind, coastal wind, rain and snow/ice events triggered the most frequent responses.
In 2023, Kerry accounted for 43% of all activations to severe weather events nationally, with 72 response plans implemented (the national total was 168).
Meanwhile, 84 meetings of the emergency response team were held that year.
It held 53 meetings in 2022, with 46 severe weather plan activations, the highest number across all 31 local authorities.
