Kerry has been ‘twinned’ with Czechia for the duration of Ireland’s presidency of the European Union (EU).
Every county in the republic will be paired with a specific EU member state from July to December this year (2026).
As part of the EU Presidency Programme, the ambassador of Czechia to Ireland, Ambassador Pavel Vošalík, accompanied by the Irish ambassador to Czechia, Alan Gibbons, will undertake a programme of public engagements in Kerry.
These events will focus on Ireland’s role in the EU and will include talks at local libraries, visits to schools, and engagement with sporting, youth, community and civil society organisations.
Kerry County Council has made an application under the EU Presidency Culture Programme and is awaiting feedback from the Department.
Announcing the initiative, Minister for Foreign Affairs Helen McEntee said the EU Presidency will offer an opportunity to showcase Ireland and strengthen cultural, business and community links.
Ambassador Pavel VoSalík visited Tralee recently in advance of the programme.
