Clarity is still needed on planning requirements for short-term lets.

That’s according to Independent TD for Kerry Danny Healy-Rae, who was reacting to plans on restricting such lettings to towns with populations over 20,000.

Government initially planned to target towns of 10,000 people, but have decided to increase this under the proposals.

It means that Tralee will be the only town affected in Kerry by the restrictions, based on the most recent Census figures.

Deputy Danny Healy-Rae says while it’s a positive move, he fundamentally disagrees with any restrictions on what people should be able to do with their own property.

The announcement has been welcomed by Children’s Minister Norma Foley, Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae, and Fine Gale Senator Mike Kennelly.
