A Kerry TD has hit out at the main political parties for what he terms as blocking attempts to get Independents on the ballot paper for the Presidential election.
Maria Steen failed in her efforts to contest the election; she only secured 18 of the necessary 20 signatures before today’s midday deadline.
Among those who signed a nomination for her was Kerry Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae.
He says he did so as it felt it was right to give her a chance to contest the election and he also says many members of the public told him they wanted her name on the ballot.
