Kerry TD defends Michael Lowry’s two finger gesture in the Dáil

An independent TD for Kerry has defended Michael Lowry’s two finger gesture in the Dáil yesterday.

People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy took a video showing the Tipperary independent deputy making the sign at him.

Danny Healy-Rae, who's one of the independent deputies at the heart of the speaking rights row, says there were two TDs involved in the exchange.

He believes Michael Lowry was reacting to something Deputy Murphy said:

Meanwhile, a Kerry Fianna Fáil TD has described the scenes yesterday as beggaring belief.

Michael Cahill believes there was an element of Hollywood about the scenes, which he claims were orchestrated.

The government backbench deputy says TDs are elected to a role of great responsibility and the parliament need to get its act in order.
