Kerry TD calls for lower tax rate to be made permanent

A Kerry TD has called for the lower tax rate to be implemented permanently for the hospitality industry.

Cabinet agreed earlier to extend the 9% VAT rate until February 2023, in a move that’ll cost the State €250million.

Deputy Government Chief Whip Brendan Griffin welcomed the development but said he would like to see an indefinite extension.

The reduced VAT rate will also be applied to cinemas, theatres and museums.
