Rising fuel costs are putting unsustainable pressure on young people across the county.
That's according to Kerry Sinn Féin chairperson Daithí Fitzgerald, who has described the increased prices as creating a “disastrous domino effect on the cost of being alive.”
He claims that it is the young adults in Kerry that are being hit hardest, as high rent costs have resulted in students commuting and relying on cars to travel to and from their lectures.
Mr Fitzgerald said that the combined pressure of rising rent, fuel, insurance and everyday expenses is making it increasingly difficult for young people to build a life in Kerry.
He believes that it is only a matter of time before young people will be forced out of the country, citing that three in five under-25s are now considering emigrating in search of a better quality of life.
The Kerry Sinn Féin chairperson is calling on the government to act urgently and adopt measures to incentivise young people to remain in the country.
