An initiative in Kerry to attract more visitors from the UK is paying dividends.
That’s according to Pat O’Leary, chair of the Kerry Tourism Industry Federation.
He says in order to move away from an over-reliance on the US tourism market, the KTIF and Kerry County Council looked closer to home, and to the United Kingdom.
Pat O’Leary says there are advantages for UK tourists such as access and costs, and anecdotally, the initiative is working.
Meanwhile, Pat O’Leary says addressing input costs would have a greater impact in helping hospitality businesses than reducing the VAT rate.
He says reducing the VAT to 9% for this sector would help.
However, having targeted supports to do with rising input costs like energy and insurance would benefit businesses and consumers.
