A principal in Kerry says pupil numbers in her school are dropping because people cannot get planning permission to build homes in the area.
Principal of Lisselton National School, Regina Walsh, says she is aware of several past pupils who have been refused planning to build homes, sometimes even on their own land.
Lisselton National School will be making a submission on Kerry County Council’s Settlements Plan for the Listowel Municipal District, to try and encourage change in the council’s policy on planning in the area.
Regina Walsh says there should be consideration given to the positive aspects of people being allowed build homes in rural areas, especially in a housing crisis.
She says this is leading to fewer young families living in the area, which will directly affect the school.
