A Kerry photographer has claimed a top prize in the world's most prestigious photojournalism competition.

Stephen McCarthy, who is from Cahersiveen and works with Sportsfile, placed second in the 'Sports, Singles' category of the 2021 World Press Photo Contest.

His winning image called 'Home Training' was taken in May 2020 and features the then 87-year-old master's athlete Pat Naughton maintaining his daily training regime at his home in Nenagh, County Tipperary.
