Kerry pharmacist welcomes medicine blister packs agreement

A Kerry pharmacist has welcomed the agreement reached on medicine blister packs.

The HSE and the Irish Pharmacy Union have reached an agreement on blister packs, ending months of negotiations around the issue.

New reforms mean vulnerable patients such as those with dementia, an intellectual disability, or people at risk of medication misuse will have their dispensing costs - including blister packs - paid for by the State.

The packs will also be free of charge for medical card patients when deemed appropriate, while others will have to pay a fee set by individual pharmacists.

Castleisland pharmacist Jack Shanahan says it will protect vulnerable patients, and has addressed the wider issue around dispensing of medicine.
