Kerry NGO urging government to use diplomatic channels to support Turkey-Kurdish peace process

A Kerry-based NGO is calling on the government to use diplomatic channels to advance the rights of Kurdish people in the Middle East.

South Kerry company, Azadi, is submitting an Oireachtas public petition today urging the action.

Co-director and Sneem native Florian Scheibein is of Kurdish descent and estimates the population of Kurds globally is between 25-45 million.

He says most Kurdish people live in parts of Iran, Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Armenia.

Mr Scheibein believes as Ireland approaches its EU Council Presidency, it should use it support the Turkey-Kurdish peace process.
