Both of Kerry’s centres for mental health treatment achieved over 85% compliance with regulations last year.
That’s according to the Mental Health Commission’s Annual Report for 2025.
The independent statutory body regulates and inspects inpatient mental health facilities across the country.
According to the report, there were 2,612 beds in centres providing care and treatment for people who have a mental illness in the country last year.
In Kerry, there were a total of 74 HSE mental health beds at the end of 2025.
These are spread across 2 centres in the county; Sliabh Mish Unit in University Hospital Kerry, and the Deer Lodge facility in Killarney
The Sliabh Mish Unit achieved a 90% compliance with the regulations, while the Deer Lodge centre received a rating of over 86% (86.21)
The 8 registered mental health facilities in the HSE South West received an average compliance rating of over 84% (84.38), with the report showing no instances of overcapacity
in the region.
Additionally, there were no children admitted to an adult mental health facility registered to the HSE South West, with 6 such cases occurring elsewhere in the country last year.
