A Kerry journalist has been appointed as Adjunct Professor at the University of Limerick.
RTÉ journalist and presenter Katie Hannon, who’s from Duagh, has been announced as Adjunct Professor at UL’s Department of Journalism.
Hannon is currently a co-host on RTÉ Radio One’s Drivetime, and is one of the national broadcaster’s most prominent presenters across radio and television.
She will bring over two decades of experience to the university’s acclaimed Journalism and Digital Communication programmes.
Ms Hannon said she is thrilled to get the opportunity to join UL and contribute to its outstanding journalism programmes.
Welcoming Ms Hannon, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Dr Sandra Joyce said: “Our adjunct faculty play a crucial role in connecting students with real world expertise, and we are deeply grateful to Katie for bringing her experience and insight to UL. Her contribution will greatly enrich the learning environment for all our journalism students.”
Dr Fergal Quinn, Head of UL’s Department of Journalism, commented: “Katie’s exceptional track record in Irish media aligns perfectly with our commitment to preparing the next generation of journalists for a dynamic and challenging industry.
“Her practical experience will inspire and mentor our students as they develop skills across print, broadcast, and digital platforms.”
Dr Yvonne Cleary, Head of UL’s School of English, Irish, and Communication, added: “Adjunct professors give their time voluntarily to share their industry insights and expertise with students. It is wonderful to have a professional of Katie Hannon’s calibre serving in this role for Journalism, and we are truly grateful for her engagement.”
Dr Audrey Galvin, who is radio journalism lead in UL, said: "Broadcast journalism remains a vital pillar of modern media, even as newsrooms become increasingly digital and convergent. Radio and live broadcasting demand immediacy, clarity, truth and trust — qualities that are essential in today’s 24-hour news environment. Having someone with Katie’s depth of experience in live political and current affairs broadcasting will be hugely valuable for our students as they work across audio, digital and multimedia platforms.”
