The Kerry Fire Service had to respond to a fire in Killarney National Park last night.
The fire broke out at the Eagle’s Nest, Five Mile Bridge, shortly before 6pm, but was quickly contained by the Kerry Fire Service, and National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Rangers, who attended.
The NPWS says about half an acre was destroyed, mainly of wet heath.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service is appealing to the public not to light fires or barbecues in public places.
Divisional Manager with the NPWS, Eamonn Meskell, says April is a precious time for wildlife and their vulnerable young, and is asking for the public’s help and cooperation to protect Killarney National Park.
