Kerry Fire Service responded to 62 chimney fires last year.
That’s according to figures from the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage.
Nationally in 2024, 25 people died in fires, while almost 20 thousand incidents were attended across various locations.
Flues, hot ashes and soot were also among the top causes, while malicious intent and rubbish burning featured highly.
According to the report, 345 fires in properties were recorded in Kerry last year, including 46 at bogs and forests.
Kerry Fire Service responded to 129 in domestic buildings, with chimney fires accounting for the majority of these.
61 “other house fires” were reported, there were five fires at apartments, while one was at a mobile home.
One fire was recorded at a hospital in the county, there was one fire at a school, and three were recorded at “other institutions”.
The report shows fire brigades attended one fire at a place of public entertainment in Kerry, while they attended one incident at a petrol station and 29 motor vehicle fires.
63 incidents of outdoor rubbish fires were attended by Kerry Fire Service; fire brigades responded to one incident at an “outdoor storage”; while 40 were recorded as
