The Kerry Fire Service experienced a 16% increase in call-outs in 2025.
Up to 17th of December, the county’s fire service responded to 1,750 incidents, which is up from just over 1500 (1506) incidents during the same period last year.
The Kerry Fire Service responded to 432 fires so far this year.
A significant number of those were gorse fires.

That’s up 210 percent compared to the same time last year when the Kerry Fire Service attended 46 gorse fires
Senior assistant chief fire officer with the Kerry Fire Service, James Foley, says this considerable increase can be attributed to the dry spell of weather at the start of this year.
The Kerry Fire Service also responded to 47 chimney fires which is a 17% reduction on the same time last year.
Of non-fire related emergency incidents, the Kerry Fire Service made 722 callouts.
That’s an increase of 16 percent from the same period last year.
This includes 301 call-outs to road traffic collisions, which is up over 32% compared to the same period last year.
James Foley says the Kerry Fire Service is reminding motorists ensure that drivers and their passengers are wearing their seatbelts when on the road.
He adds that it’s important to pay attention to road conditions and be aware of other road users, particularly at this time of
year.
