A Kerry Fianna Fáil councillor isn’t happy with his party’s process to select a Presidential candidate.
Cllr Mikey Sheehy believes Fianna Fáil has excluded councillors and grassroots members from the process.
The Tralee MD councillor says he doesn’t have an issue with either Jim Gavin or MEP Billy Kelleher becoming the party’s candidate and he will canvass for them.
However, he says it’s disappointing that he, along with other members of the party, won’t have their voices heard as part of the selection process.
Cllr Mikey Sheehy says he the process of how a candidate is selected within his party needs to be changed for the 2032 Presidential election to allow each member have a vote.
He says he’ll be putting a motion forward for change at the Árd Fheiseanna because he doesn’t feel the current format is democratic:
Meanwhile, Councillor Mikey Sheehy says he is working with Gardaí and Kerry County Council to identify solutions to address heavy tailbacks in Tralee.
In recent days there’s been heavy traffic in Listellick to the north of Tralee.
Cllr Sheehy says this is due to a number of reasons including roadworks for the Northern Relief Road and children returning to school and the MTU campus.
