A new free app has been developed to allow people share their exact location with emergency services, even without an Eircode.
Last year, Lispole farmer Dinny Galvin spoke on Radio Kerry's Agritime show about the need for an Eircode-style system for farm buildings and fields.
He said having post codes for such buildings and land would allow emergency services get to accidents quicker.
In response, the Farm Families Committee of NEWKD commissioned an app to solve the problem.
The project was funded by the Department of Agriculture and developed by Cork company Loc8.
The Point Eight app can direct an ambulance to within ten metres of the phone, and includes features like an SOS button and welfare monitoring.
Mr Galvin says the free Point Eight app can be used by hill walkers, hikers or anyone working alone:
