A Kerry County Councillor has rejected accusations of being anti-democratic for not supporting the nomination of a Presidential candidate at yesterday’s council meeting.
At yesterday’s meeting Cathaoirleach of Kenmare Municipal District, Cllr Norma Moriarty supported a motion for Kerry County Council not to nominate any candidate.
This motion was defeated however, and Dublin businessman Gareth Sheridan received the council’s support in his bid to get his name on the ballot on October 24th.
Mr Sheridan needs support from at least three more local authorities to get on the ballot paper.
