Kerry County Councillor calls for September 1st school return to minimise impact on tourism industry

A Kerry County Councillor is calling for schools not to return from summer holidays before September 1st to minimise the impact on the tourism industry.

Fine Gael councillor Tommy Griffin raised the issue at the monthly meeting of Kerry County Council.

He asked the council to write to the Minister for Education asking her to standardise the return to all schools after the summer holidays to September 1st.

He says August is always a very good month for businesses and tourism.

Cllr Griffin feels by delaying the return to school, it’ll give families the chance to holiday longer which in turn will benefit businesses and the tourism industry.
