Cllr Jim Finucane is calling for the Jeanie Johnston to be made the nation's sail training vessel and be used to bring young people from disadvantaged communities in Northern Ireland together.

The Fine Gael councillor says the violence seen in Belfast last week was disturbing, especially given that many of those involved were teenagers.

Cllr Finucane recalled the success of the construction of the Jeanie Johnston in Blennerville in the late 1990s, involving young people from both sides of the divide in the North.

He adds the ship, which is moored permanently as an attraction in Dublin, should again be used to bring young people from these communities together.
