A Kerry County Councillor called for action to tackle the housing crisis affecting Gaeltacht regions in the European Parliament.
Sinn Féin councillor Robert Brosnan was part of a delegation that travelled to Brussels this week, on the invitation of MEP Kathleen Funchion.
Speaking in Brussels, Cllr Brosnan says the housing situation in the Gaeltacht is at a critical point.
He says he isn’t just talking about housing, but says this is about the survival of a language, a culture, and a way of life that has been passed down through generations.
The delegation, which included Kerry musician and activist Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich, met with European Commission officials responsible for housing and language rights.
The delegation also held a key meeting with Davyth Hicks, Secretary General of the European Language Equality Network (ELEN), who has long championed the rights of minority language speakers across Europe.
