Kerry County Council took an average of 61.55 weeks to turn around 157 vacant social housing properties last year.

The council's housing department confirmed the figures following criticism by Kerry TD Pa Daly.

The Sinn Féin deputy who released the figures condemned the government for the excessive time taken to re-let vacant council homes in Kerry.

He's called for urgent action on the issue.

Kerry County Council said a number of the void properties required unusually extensive refurbishment, which in turn prolonged the turnaround time.

It claimed that the percentage of vacant housing stock at the end of 2024 had been reduced to 2.76%,  due to progress made through the council’s voids programme.
