Kerry County Council have received six notifications to convert pubs into homes since 2022.
That’s according to figures released by Housing Minister James Browne.
Planning exemptions introduced in 2018, removed the requirement for planning permission to convert certain types of commercial properties into residential units.
This exemption was extended in 2022, to allow vacant pubs to be converted into homes.
The figures show since 2018, Kerry County Council received 49 notifications, which would provide 80 new homes if enacted.
According to the figures the enactment of the six notifications of pubs in Kerry, would provide 14 new homes.
Nationally, there were almost 1,500 planning exemptions to convert commercial properties into more than 3,400 new homes.
This includes more than 150 notifications to redevelop vacant pubs into over 450 new homes.
