Kerry County Council has acquired additional land to extend a graveyard in Mid-Kerry.
An agreement was made by the council to purchase additional lands next to Churchtown Burial Ground in Beaufort for extension purposes.
Fianna Fail councillor Michael Cahill says it’s been a major worry for residents in Beaufort as families were fearful they’d be buried in graveyards elsewhere in the county due to lack of burial space.

Cllr Cahill says he hopes that a Columbarium wall could also be provided in the proposed extension to cater for the remains of the increasing numbers of cremations.
