Kerry County Council criticised for not providing detailed housing reports to combat “false non-national rumours”

A Killarney councillor is critical of the local authority for not making figures available on housing recipients' nationalities.

Cllr Brendan Cronin raised the matter at Monday’s full meeting of Kerry County Council.

He urged for the stats to be released to “kill off false and untrue rumours” that most social homes are being allocated to non-Irish nationals.

The council’s Director of Housing Niamh O’Sullivan told the meeting that anyone who’s allocated a house is a qualified applicant, who has met allocation scheme requirements and is on the housing list.

Cllr Cronin says the information is needed in the public domain to counteract growing levels of disinformation regarding housing recipients.
