Kerry County Council cathaoirleach welcomes government decision to lift ban on imported fracked gas

The cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council has welcomed the Minister for Energy 's statement that Ireland no longer bans the importation of fracked gas.

The Business Post is reporting that Minister Darragh O'Brien informed An Coimisiúin Pleanála of the latest development after the commission sought his advice on the Shannon LNG case.

An Coimisiún Pleanála is currently considering the application to grant planning permission to the €650 million facility.

Cathaoirleach Michael Foley says Ireland needs a new gas supply:

Fine Gael councillor Michael Foley hopes the parliamentary party will give MEP Seán Kelly the 20 votes required to force a contest to select their presidential candidate.

So far, the parliamentary party has overwhelming supported Heather Humphreys.

It's understood, as of yesterday, she had the support of 42 of Fine Gael's 55 TDs and senators.
