A politician has accused Kerry County Council of using AI to generate answers to councillors' motions.
Cllr Charlie Farrelly made the statement at the recent meeting of the Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District
The independent councillor aired his frustration at what he described as the council’s failure to answer questions in relation to CCTV on Castleisland’s Main Street.
Radio Kerry has contacted Kerry County Council for comment.
Cllr Charlie Farrelly tabled the motion requesting the council install CCTV cameras to eradicate the dumping of household waste in bins in the town.
The independent councillor said the situation on Castleisland's Main Street has reached epidemic proportions and the council has failed to stamp out this dumping.
He noted the bins are frequently being topped up by household waste from private properties and it needs to stop.
Kerry County Council responded advising that the disposal of household waste in municipal bins is an offence under the Litter Pollution Act.
It stated all complaints are investigated; fines are issued where evidence is found; and litter patrols will be increased in the area.
Cllr Farrelly slammed the response accusing it of being AI generated, unacceptable and being the same answer that has been coming for years and years.
He said the reply didn’t give one word in response to his request for cameras, questioning what the stance on CCTV is for the area; adding it’s 2026, they are needed.
In response, the council noted it is monitoring the situation and believes it knows the source of the dumping issue, and that a household waste survey may be carried out.
The motion was seconded by Fine Gael councillor Bobby O’Connell.
