Kerry councillors will write to the Taoiseach and Finance Minister seeking the abolition of the Universal Social Charge (USC).
It follows a motion by Independent councillor Charlie Farrelly at the recent full council meeting.
He urged for the USC to be abolished in Budget 2026, stating it was brought in during the financial crisis and was supposed to be a short-term measure.
Cllr Farrelly described it as a burden on the working class and that it’s hitting home big time now, due to the cost-of-living crisis.
He said the best thing the government can do is abolish the charge completely.
The motion was seconded by Independent councillor Podge Foley.
