Kerry councillors are urging the Finance Minister to introduce targeted supports to ensure the survival of pubs in the county.
Cllr Teddy O’Sullivan Casey tabled the motion at the recent full meeting of Kerry County Council.
He urged the government to heed the Vintners Federation’s calls for a new On-Trade Sustainability Scheme.
Cllr O’Sullivan Casey said pubs across Kerry are facing significant cost pressures and that pubs are vital in rural areas.
The motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil councillor, Michael Leane who said as a publican he sees first hand that costs continue to soar, which is leading to pub closures weekly.
