Kerry councillors will write to the Housing Minister seeking an increase of the social housing threshold.
It follows a motion from Fianna Fáil councillor Breandán Fitzgerald at the recent meeting of the Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District.
In January 2023, the baseline threshold increased by €5,000, bringing income eligibility for a person applying for social housing in Kerry to €35,000.
Cllr Fitzgerald says as there is so little of a housing stock in the county, working people above the threshold have no options.
He asked for the baseline to be increased to €40,000, so that people in the squeezed middle may be able to get on the housing list.
The motion was seconded by Fine Gael councillor Tommy Griffin.
