A Kerry county councillor says the Government’s proposed ban on licences for new oil and gas exploration strengthens the case for the Shannon LNG project.

The ban on oil and gas exploration is part of the revised Climate Action Bill which has been approved by Cabinet.
Global energy giant, New Fortress Energy, is expected to lodge an application for a floating gas terminal off the Tarbert Ballylongford land bank in the coming weeks.

The original planning for a liquefied natural gas terminal was quashed by a European court last year.

Fine Gael councillor, Mike Foley said we don’t have enough green energy to meet Ireland’s needs and said importing gas as a transitional energy is a necessity.
